ECLIPSECON, SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Oracle today announced it will extend its participation in the Eclipse Foundation by becoming a Board Member and Strategic Developer. An Eclipse member since its inception, Oracle's increased role further demonstrates the company's efforts to help drive open source innovations and furthers its commitment to the developer community. Oracle's increased role in the Eclipse community also includes a new proposal to open source its Oracle(R) TopLink technology, a component of Oracle Fusion Middleware, through the Eclipse Foundation.

"Eclipse is excited to welcome Oracle to its new role as a Board Member and Strategic Developer," said Mike Milinkovich, director of the Eclipse Foundation. "Oracle is well known for its on-going contributions to Eclipse and the open source and developer communities. Eclipse is incredibly fortunate that now we will be able to further tap the vision, talents and resources Oracle brings to the table."

"Expanding our relationship and leadership role with the Eclipse Foundation, in conjunction with our donation of Oracle TopLink code, provides an excellent opportunity for Oracle to foster the growth of open source software and choice for developers," said Dennis Leung, vice president software development, Oracle. "The move to being a Board Member reflects our increased commitment to the Eclipse community and Oracle's interest in the success of Eclipse projects. We look forward to taking a more active role in shaping the future of Eclipse."

Oracle's Commitment to Eclipse

The Eclipse Foundation is one of several open source communities in which Oracle invests significant development resources. As a leading participant in both the Eclipse Web Tools Platform (WTP) and the Technology project, Oracle currently leads the JavaServer Faces tooling, Dali JPA tools and BPEL tools projects. In addition, Oracle has proposed a new Java persistence framework project based on Oracle TopLink.
