ACCESS Linux Platform Development Suite Showcased at EclipseCon 2007
- Featuring ACCESS Linux Platform Development Suite, an Eclipse-based native application development kit for ACCESS Linux Platfo

Digg This!

EclipseCon, SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- ACCESS Systems Americas, Inc., a member of the ACCESS CO., LTD., group of companies, is participating in EclipseCon 2007, March 5 - 8, as a Silver Sponsor. The conference is being held at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California. Located in booth 600, ACCESS will be showcasing the ACCESS Linux Platform Development Suite (SDK & Developer Tools) for ACCESS Linux Platform(TM) v1.0. The Company will also demonstrate a number of applications running on ACCESS Linux Platform.

ACCESS recently announced that the Product Development Kit (PDK) for ACCESS Linux Platform is now available to licensees. The Company has also launched their Early ACCESS Program for qualified third party developers interested in being first to market using the ACCESS Linux Platform Development Suite and Garnet(TM) VM Compatibility Kit.

Eclipse(TM) is the foundation of a powerful set of new development tools delivered in the ACCESS Linux Platform Development Suite. The Eclipse IDE, along with the C Developer's Toolkit (CDT), has been augmented by ACCESS to work closely with the ACCESS Linux Platform(TM) Simulator for application deployment and source-level debugging. Eclipse works with a custom version of the Glade open source GUI utility, allowing application UIs to be simply constructed. ACCESS Systems Americas, Inc. (formerly PalmSource, Inc.) is an Add-in Provider to the Eclipse Foundation and an active participant in the development of the Eclipse ecosystem.

"We are committed to providing developers with a comprehensive software development suite that enables them to develop and deliver exciting and innovative new mobile applications," said Larry Berkin, senior director developer ecosystem & technology acquisition for ACCESS Systems Americas, Inc. "Because it includes three runtime environments, ACCESS Linux Platform represents an attractive opportunity for third party developers. Developers can create applications that are ACCESS Linux Platform native, Garnet(TM) OS (previously known as Palm OS(R)) native or Java native. No other platform can do this."

ACCESS Linux Platform(TM)

ACCESS Linux Platform combines the best-in-class open source Linux(R) components with proven mobile technologies from the portfolios of ACCESS Systems Americas, Inc. (formerly PalmSource, Inc.) and ACCESS CO., LTD. These components have been optimized and integrated to provide a flexible, customizable and open operating system software platform designed to provide handset and mobile device manufacturers, operators and third party developers with a solution that will enable them to deliver innovative and exciting new products.

ACCESS Linux Platform v1.0 includes ACCESS Garnet(TM) VM, a compatibility layer that allows thousands of existing applications written for ACCESS Garnet(TM) OS to run seamlessly (with little or no modification) on the ACCESS Linux Platform software. This unique compatibility layer has been designed to provide an easy migration path for users who rely on these applications and expands the addressable market for the current 30,000 68K-based Palm OS(R) applications.

Also included in ACCESS Linux Platform is the Company's Hiker(TM) Application Framework, the industry's first open source mobile Linux application framework for commercial use. Released under the MPL v1.1 license, the Hiker Application Framework integrates communication between applications, enabling a seamless user experience for music, messaging and other advanced features. The Hiker Application Framework also provides services needed for commercial products, including security and application management. The Hiker Application Framework is available for download at: http://www.access-company.com/about/opensource/download.html

ACCESS Linux Platform Development Suite

The ACCESS Developer Network has released the ACCESS Linux Platform(TM) Development Suite (SDK & Tools) to a number of independent developers participating in the ACCESS Developer Network Early ACCESS Program. The Early ACCESS Program provides qualified third party developers access to pre-release technical and market development resources to accelerate innovation on ACCESS Linux Platform.

ACCESS Garnet(TM) VM Compatibility Kit

ACCESS Garnet VM provides the ability to run existing ACCESS Garnet(TM) OS (formerly known as Palm OS(R) Garnet(TM)) applications on the ACCESS Linux Platform(TM). As part of the Early ACCESS Program, the ACCESS Developer Network has released the ACCESS Garnet(TM) VM Compatibility Kit to a group of leading Palm OS(R) developers for external testing and validation. The ACCESS Garnet VM Compatibility Kit is a stand-alone kit enabling developers to test their ACCESS Garnet OS-based applications' compatibility with ACCESS Linux Platform.

Developers interested in participating in the Early Access Program may apply at: http://www.access-company.com/developers

ACCESS Linux Platform PDK

The ACCESS Linux Platform v 1.0 PDK is now available to licensees. The PDK includes all the necessary components, tools, samples and documentation to develop customized mobile devices based on the ACCESS Linux Platform software including:

* All platform components (including a Linux reference kernel) * Reference drivers and development kit * Application development kit * A complete Eclipse-based set of development tools * Documentation About the ACCESS Developer Network (ADN)

As ACCESS' global developer program for ACCESS Linux Platform and ACCESS Garnet OS (previously known as Palm OS), the ADN connects developers to tools, technical information, support, and distribution channels they can use to build and market applications around the globe. From offices in the U.S., Europe, Japan and China, ADN provides technical and business development support to mobile developers, handset manufacturers and operators to assist them in achieving their goal of successfully launching mobile applications and services for ACCESS Linux Platform and ACCESS Garnet OS to consumers and enterprises.
