Arthur Ryman Starts His Eclipse Developer's Journal Blog
Ryman's First Blog Entry at "Ryman.EclipseDevelopersJournal.com" Is Entitled "Eclipse WTP 0.7 Now Available For Download!"

Digg This!

Arthur Ryman is one of the most influential and well-known names in the Eclipse.org and the Eclipse community. Ryman, a senior technical staff member and development manager at the IBM Toronto Lab, is currently the lead of the "Web Standard Tools" subproject of the "Eclipse Web Tools Platform" project. Ryman's previous development projects include Rational Application Developer, WebSphere Studio Application Developer, and VisualAge for Java. He is a member of the W3C Web Services Description Working Group and is an editor of the Web Services Description Language 2.0 specification. He is a co-author of the book, "Java Web Services Unleashed."

A frequent contributor to SYS-CON's JDJ, WebSphere Journal and Eclipse Developer's Journal, Ryman's articles are read by thousands of SYS-CON readers. His recent article "EDJ Exclusive: The Story Of Web Tools Platform 0.7" was read by more than 12,000 readers within two days after it was published in JDJ and Eclipse Developer's Journal last July.

Ryman's blog can be read at ryman.eclipsedevelopersjournal.com. He is the latest i-technology celebrity whose blog is syndicated on SYS-CON's branded blog-n-play community pages next to James Gosling, Marc Fleury, Ben Forta, John C. Dvorak, Alan Williamson and others.

In his first blog entry Arthur Ryman writes:

"As promised in my recent article, J2EE Development the Eclipse Way, the first release of the Eclipse Web Tools Platform Project is ready for download. I'd like to encourage all readers of EDJ to kick the tires at their earliest convenience. I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank all the incredibly talented and dedicated developers who contributed to the project. It was a pleasure working with such a great team and I'm looking forward to repeating the experience as we head into the WTP 1.0 and 1.5 cycles.

In my article, I described how the project got started but I noticed a typo too late to get it corrected. I will therefore correct it here. The WTP project was initially approved by the Eclipse board in June of 2003, not 2004 as the article incorrectly states. During 2003, we (IBM) tried to find partners for the project, but were unsuccessful. Then in early 2004, on the heels of EclipseCon, we formed a partnership with ObjectWeb, which led to a successful Creation Review by the newly formed Eclipse Foundation in June of 2004. ObjectWeb and IBM then checked in their code contributions to CVS and spent the next year working on WTP 0.7 which was released on July 29, 2005.

Oh, and for the record, I am an IBM employee, however the postings on this site are my own and don’t necessarily represent IBM’s positions, strategies or opinions.
