Northwestern University and NogginLabs, Inc. Personalize Patient Education with Design of MyOncofertility.org
'No two users will have the same experience,' says Brian Knudson, CEO of NogginLabs, Inc.

CHICAGO, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Northwestern University and NogginLabs, Inc., the most award-winning e-Learning provider, announce their collaboration on the design of http://www.MyOncofertility.org, launched by Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine on Oncofertility for patients, parents and partners with difficult questions about preserving fertility in the face of cancer. Visitors can choose from endless pathways of expert opinions and compelling survivor stories -- over 200 videos -- to personalize the learning experience and prioritize the information that is presented.

"The amount of online health information is growing tremendously, yet innovation in online patient education has lagged behind," said Kemi Jona, Ph.D., Research Associate Professor of Learning Sciences and Computer Science in the School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University, director of the MyOncofertility.org project, and a leading expert on online learning. "While other patient education web sites typically provide a static list of questions and answers, they don't take into account the feelings of stress and of being overwhelmed that patients and their families are going through. In fact, they often make things worse by overwhelming patients with more information than they are ready to digest. http://www.MyOncofertility.org provides an alternative experience that lets users easily find answers to their questions, in language they can understand, and in a format that feels like a supportive, face-to-face conversation with experts and fellow patients."

In addition to a rich array of expert opinions and personal stories, visitors can print questions for their doctors, link to a risk calculator and research other sources of support.

"Our innovative instructional design framework has raised the bar for patient education," said Brian Knudson, CEO of NogginLabs. "Like in real-life conversations, visitors can branch off in tangents that take stories in different directions. As a result, no two users will have the same experience on the site."

Much like “Web 2.0″, cloud computing was a collection of related concepts that people recognized, but didn’t really have a good descriptor for, a definition in search of a term, you could say. When Google CEO Eric Schmidt used it in 2006 to describe their own stuff and then Amaz...
