Farallon Geographics and its design partner Stamen Designs have been selected by the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) to develop a Rich Internet Application (RIA) for the next generation of its “California Health Care Atlas”. The new Web-based atlas will integrate interactive mapping, reporting, and charting elements with a dynamic real-time interface to tell the healthcare story in California, allowing a broad spectrum of users the ability to investigate and learn about the human health and healthcare landscape in California. 

OSHPD works to ensure equitable access to healthcare for all Californians. Achieving its goals requires an ongoing commitment to collecting and analyzing the data necessary to quantify the current and anticipated future state of health care access throughout California. The goal of the atlas is to help OSHPD staff enhance their understanding of health care issues by presenting sophisticated analyses of California healthcare trends in a an easy-to-explore and easy-to-understand manner.

The Farallon team plans to build the server component of the application using ESRI’s AcrGIS Server 9.3 for the geospatial processing and Microsoft’s .NET for the healthcare data analysis and application logic. On the client side, an Adobe’s Flex interface will present a rich and dynamic way to understand complex spatial and temporal perspectives.
