BalaBit Increases Flexibility With New Releases of the syslog-ng Product Portfolio

NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 08/13/14 -- BalaBit (www.balabit.com), an IT security innovator specializing in log management and advanced monitoring technologies, announced the launch and general availability of syslog-ng Premium Edition™ version 5F1 and the log management appliance, syslog-ng Store Box™ 3F2, featuring a RESTful Application Programming Interface (API) and a completely revamped User Interface. the last 15 years, syslog-ng has become the trusted log management infrastructure for over a million organizations worldwide.

The syslog-ng Premium Edition enables enterprises to collect, filter, normalize, forward, and store log messages from across their IT environment. With syslog-ng Premium Edition, organizations can centralize and simplify their log management infrastructure to improve operations, gain visibility of security threats, and meet compliance requirements such as PCI-DSS 3.0, SOX, HIPAA, and ISO 27001. The syslog-ng Store Box extends these capabilities with indexing log messages and up to 10 terabytes of storage.

"With Version 5F1, the added features of syslog-ng greatly support the rapidly growing application development and management space," said Zoltán Györkő, CEO of BalaBit. "The new features of our syslog-ng product portfolio demonstrate the flexibility of syslog-ng in meeting the log management needs across the broadest spectrum of industries and use cases."

Key new features of syslog-ng Premium Edition 5F1
The latest version of syslog-ng Premium Edition adds support for the popular NoSQL database MongoDB. With a schema-free, document-oriented architecture, MongoDB is commonly used as the backend database for applications and provides a flexible means of storing unstructured log messages.

Version 5F1 also includes support for JavaScript Object Notation (JSON), a text-based open-standard format that is commonly used to transmit data between servers and web applications. With this added support, syslog-ng can now parse JSON messages, receiving structured log messages from such applications, storing them, and converting them to other formats if needed. Additionally, syslog-ng can now convert log messages from other formats or selected name-value pairs directly into JSON format.

Key new features syslog-ng Store Box 3F2
The API, with a REST-based architecture, allows users to access and query the log messages stored on SSB from remote applications. Large organizations typically need to analyze log data with a variety of applications for different purposes. The new API enables organizations to seamlessly integrate SSB with third party applications.

BalaBit completely re-designed the user interface to be more intuitive and responsive for searching logs making monitoring IT environments and troubleshooting operational and security issues much easier. The improved design offers users more flexibility in defining queries, drilling-down through results and creating reports.

Current syslog-ng customers will be automatically notified of the latest version. For more information on the BalaBit product line and syslog-ng, please visit www.balabit.com.
