Government Employees and Contractors: Attend 10 Apr Dialog With @LorenSiebert on Open Source DigitalGov Search Tech

Loren Siebert is someone I really admire. He is known for delivering real world solutions that work in enterprises, and he has a track record of doing that in ways that help everyone around him. He never crows about this so I’ll do some of that here: I credit him with the hard work and teamwork-building/mission-focused actions that led to some of the most virtuous improvements in citizen service in a decade. Loren is always quick to credit a wide team, and it is true that many others were involved, but he is a star.

The kind of things he has been involved in include helping government agencies understand the power of open source technologies for search solutions.

Thanks to DigitalGov University, government employees and contractors can attend a presentation by Loren on 10 April 2014 at 9am in DC. Here are some details and instructions on how to register:

Open source search technology has improved rapidly in recent years just as private companies, government agencies, and the nonprofit sector are realizing they have a search problem. It’s no longer enough to make our government data available for simple browsing or downloads. We also need to provide a way for the public to search our data to gain meaningful insights.

What You’ll Learn

  • How search works at a high level
  • Common use cases for search
  • Popular open source search technologies
  • Where search gets tricky

Who should attend

Any government employee or contractor (with a .gov or .mil email address) who is interested in search.

About the Presenter

Loren Siebert from the DigitalGov Search team at GSA will talk about how they’ve been successfully using open source search technology since 2010 to power the search box on 1,500 government websites–at no cost to agencies.
