TripAdvisor Talks Turkey: Thanksgiving Travel Survey Reveals More Americans Making Holiday Pilgrimage in 2006

Among Those Traveling this Thanksgiving, 56 Percent Driving and 41 Percent Flying

NEEDHAM, Mass., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- TripAdvisor(TM), the largest travel community in the world, today announced the results of a Thanksgiving travel survey of more than 1,400 U.S. travelers.

Pilgrimage Plans: Thirty-nine percent of survey respondents are planning to travel for Thanksgiving this year, up from 34 percent last year. Among those traveling, 56 percent of travelers will make the trip via car, while 41 percent will fly. Last year, 61 percent of those who traveled said they went by car and 36 percent said they took a flight. Forty-seven percent of respondents consider Thanksgiving the worst holiday for traveling.

Turkey Day Itineraries: Among those traveling for Thanksgiving, the greatest percentage (29 percent) will be departing for the holiday on Wednesday, November 22, tied with Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, November 23. The most popular days to return home are Sunday, November 26 (29 percent) followed by Saturday, November 25 (20 percent). Twelve percent plan to return on Thanksgiving Day, while 11 percent intend to return on Monday, November 27.

Relatively Busy: Seventy-four percent of survey respondents plan to see relatives/family this Thanksgiving, almost unchanged compared to 75 percent that said they saw relatives/family for the holiday in 2005. When asked what they would like to be doing this Thanksgiving, 42 percent of travelers said enjoying a quiet Thanksgiving at home with family, 25 percent said spending Thanksgiving visiting relatives, and 18 percent would prefer getting away to a beach destination for the holiday.

The Right Stuffing: Aside from turkey, the Thanksgiving dish that makes traveling worth the trip is stuffing, according to 32 percent of survey respondents. Eleven percent voted for mashed potatoes and 10 percent picked sweet potatoes. When asked which Thanksgiving pies make traveling worth the trip, 35 percent of travelers selected pumpkin pie, followed by pecan pie (13 percent) and apple pie (10 percent).

"There are many things we should be thankful for during Thanksgiving, and one of them is that many of us will have the opportunity to enjoy quality time with relatives and family during the holiday," said Michele Perry, director of communications for TripAdvisor. "Perhaps the most surprising result of the survey is that most travelers don't think green bean casserole is worth a trip. What other recipe magically transforms three separate canned food items into one delectable Thanksgiving medley?"

Every organization is facing their own Digital Transformation as they attempt to stay ahead of the competition, or worse, just keep up. Each new opportunity, whether embracing machine learning, IoT, or a cloud migration, seems to bring new development, deployment, and management models. Digital Transformation is much more than a buzzword. The radical shift to digital mechanisms for almost every process is evident across all industries and verticals. This is often especially true in financial services, where the legacy environment is many times unable to keep up with the rapidly shifting demands of the consumer. The constant pressure to provide complete, omnichannel delivery of customer-facing solutions to meet both regulatory and customer demands is putting enormous pressure on...
IoT is rapidly becoming mainstream as more and more investments are made into the platforms and technology. As this movement continues to expand and gain momentum it creates a massive wall of noise that can be difficult to sift through. Unfortunately, this inevitably makes IoT less approachable for people to get started with and can hamper efforts to integrate this key technology into your own portfolio. There are so many connected products already in place today with many hundreds more on the h...
The standardization of container runtimes and images has sparked the creation of an almost overwhelming number of new open source projects that build on and otherwise work with these specifications. Of course, there's Kubernetes, which orchestrates and manages collections of containers. It was one of the first and best-known examples of projects that make containers truly useful for production use. However, more recently, the container ecosystem has truly exploded.
