New White Paper: The Technology Management Office

In a hurry? Download the white paper here!

Cloud services have touched every part of the enterprise. Companies like Salesforce have transition thousands upon thousands of salespeople into using the cloud for their most critical data. DevOps and systems integration teams use companies like NewRelic. Even project management organizations use tools like hosted SharePoint to share documents and information across projects, and have a virtual or fully-staffed project management office function to facilitate this.

Developers are unique in that unlike other employees, they have the knowledge to build solutions themselves. Instead of looking to the cloud, developers rely on their own capabilities and ingenuity to either create new solutions from whole cloth or to integrate custom tools to existing solutions using APIs.

There’s one problem with this: developers spending time on this are often not spending time innovating in the software which they intend to write. How can we provide the same structure and benefits that salesforce automation and the project management office personnel already enjoy to technology teams?

With a SaaS technology platfom like ProjectLocker, you can set up what we call the Technology Management Office (TMO). For small, agile teams, this may just be outsourcing source control and issue management so your team can focus on writing software instead of managing it. For larger teams, this may involve use of analysis services and even personnel that help share knowledge from other projects and from the open source world.

We wrote a white paper about this idea, which you can download for free. We think that by simply moving to the cloud, businesses can gain the benefits of a technology management organization without the hiring or procedural overhead.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the TMO model, and ways that you think it can be made more useful and more effective. Are you running into the kinds of problems at your company that we address in the white paper? Have you solved these problems in a different way? Drop us a note or tweet and let us know what you think.
