COLUMBIA, Md., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The Freedom Point is debuting a new educational resource to help consumers get out of debt and get their finances back on track. The Freedom Point launched its first edition of On Track, a monthly newsletter designed for consumers who are committed to paying off their debt and learning better money management skills.
Consumers can access The Freedom Point's monthly On Track newsletter at http://www.thefreedompoint.com/ under the Read Up section.
"Since The Freedom Point was established, we have been committed to providing consumers with the support, advocacy, education and solutions they need to pay off their debt and become financially stable," said Mike Croxson, president of The Freedom Point. "On Track is another example of our commitment to impart ongoing financial fitness coaching as well as improve our customers' financial literacy."
The debut edition of On Track features various articles including "Summer Vacations - Can You Stay on Budget?" It offers great tried-and-tested tips and advice to help consumers plan a great summer vacation, without blowing their budget. For example, if you'd like to save money on your hotel, stay off the beaten path. Avoid tourist destinations. Hotels in the middle of everything are usually more expensive, so look for places a little further out. Also, pack your lunches. Buy your food at supermarkets and dine picnic-style. Staying somewhere with cooking facilities can also help you cut the cost of dining out.
Upcoming On Track articles will focus on how consumers and their spouses can work together as a team to reach their financial goals and how parents can teach their children smart spending habits.
Share the Wealth
One of the most prominent features of the On Track newsletter is the Share the Wealth contest. This contest poses a new question each month to The Freedom Point's customers and its online community members, asking them to share their secrets for having fun while living on a limited budget.
For The Freedom Point's July Share the Wealth contest, consumers were asked, "It's summer time, and the living is easy. How do you have warm weather fun on limited budget?"
The winning response came from Joseph and Sarah T. in Smithfield Utah. Joseph wrote, "We love to have water fights as a family. We all put on old white undershirts, fill up water guns with water that is dyed with food coloring. Each person has a different color. We head over to a local park that is full of trees and great hiding spots. We play for an hour, and when we get home, we count up the "hits" on each shirt. The winner who got the most hits gets to pick a movie. The kids have a lot of fun."
"It's important for kids to learn that they don't have to have a lot of money to have fun," said Sarah. "Finding fun, low cost activities helps children be creative and think for themselves. At the same time they learn to live within their means, so they won't grow up and get themselves into debt."
September's Share the Wealth question: "How do you make room in your budget for your kids' extracurricular activities?"
