A new Ponemon study, commissioned by CA Technologies, reveals that organizations are more confident in the security of the cloud and have put better security practices in place over the last two years, according to this Dark Reading article. A new CDW study revealed that close to 75% of IT professionals said their organization’s decision to take on cloud computing was influenced by employees’ use of personal devices, according to this ZDNet article. The study found that 39% of organizations have already adopted cloud services.

Huawei launched an open-source cloud platform called FusionCloud, according to this NetworkWorld article. FusionCloud is compatible with OpenStack and is made up of three core components: FusionSphere for integrating IT infrastructures from other vendors, FusionCube which is a converged infrastructure, and FusionAccess for cloud connection.

UK IT decision makers are putting virtualization and data center management ahead of cloud computing, according to this ihotdesk article. The article refers to a recent TechTarget and Computer Weekly survey of 400 IT professionals which found that 49% of IT professionals were primarily focused on virtualization implementation and 39% were focused on data center consolidation.

Illinois Department of Corrections recently replaced a large 1980’s mainframe and 41 legacy applications with a cloud-based criminal justice system, according to this Corrections article. The move is expected to significantly cut costs and improve efficiency.

It is often stated that technology is easy and people are hard. Whether or not you agree with that, the sentiment must be heeded. Otherwise, even the best technical solutions can be doomed to failure or irrelevancy. For those who find themselves deeply focused on technical solutions, this can be easily forgotten.
