Hortonworks, a leading contributor to Apache Hadoop, today announced the launch of the Hortonworks Certified Technology Program, designed to help customers choose leading enterprise software that has been tested to integrate with Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), the only 100-percent open source Apache Hadoop distribution. By certifying technologies, Hortonworks is taking the risk out of the technology selection, thereby accelerating and simplifying customers’ big data projects. The Program strengthens and expands the Apache Hadoop ecosystem, while helping to increase the enterprise capabilities of Apache Hadoop.
The Certified Technology Program enables Hortonworks’ partners to deliver pre-built and validated Hadoop-based applications, tools and processes that integrate seamlessly with existing enterprise architectures. Certifying their technologies with the only 100-percent open source Apache Hadoop distribution helps their customers make the decision to take advantage of the benefits of Hadoop.
The Program ensures the interoperability of Hadoop-based enterprise technologies, thereby easing big data decision-making. With Hortonworks and its ecosystem of certified technology partners, enterprises can deploy leading big data solutions with tested and validated integrations. Hortonworks Technology Partners that are certified with Hortonworks Data Platform include (but not limited to) Attunity, Datameer, Karmasphere, MarkLogic, Microsoft, NetApp, Pentaho, Simba, Splunk, StackIQ, Syncsort, Tableau, Talend and Teradata.
Many technologies are becoming available today that uncover new insights that Hadoop enables. These technologies each play a different part in the data stack – such as enabling new analytics, robust visualizations, easing data movement and increasing big data storage. Customers are faced with selecting these technologies and testing the integration with Hadoop. By providing reference architectures and tested integrations, The Hortonworks Certified Technology Program makes the selection easier for big data architects in the design and execution phases.
Hortonworks Data Platform, powered by Apache Hadoop, is increasingly becoming a core component of enterprise data management systems as it allows organizations to capture, process and share data in any format and at scale. By refining, exploring and enriching this complex information, organizations can uncover customer and operational insights that drive better business decisions.
The certification process involves validating enterprise technologies against integration test cases and reviewing for architectural best practices. The Program delivers a choice of validated technology to help accelerate innovation, simplify decision-making and reduce risk, all while providing a rapid return on investment for organizations deploying Apache Hadoop within the enterprise.
“Backed by Hortonworks Technology Partners, our efforts to deploy an industry-wide Program to certify Apache Hadoop-based interoperability with leading enterprise technologies will enable the community to make Hadoop the next-generation enterprise data management platform,” said Herb Cunitz, president of Hortonworks. “More seamless and optimized integration with existing enterprise tools with the Hortonworks Data Platform will enable a viable and stable architecture that meets enterprise needs for big data processing and management.”
“Microsoft and Hortonworks share a goal of delivering the highest quality Apache Hadoop-based solutions,” said Eron Kelly, general manager of SQL Server, Microsoft. “The Hortonworks Certified Technology Program is an example of how partners like Hortonworks are helping ensure customers can deploy enterprise-ready solutions that are Apache Hadoop compatible.”
“Teradata is a strong believer in technology certifications as a way to provide enterprise-class platforms for our customers,” said Scott Gnau, president, Teradata Labs. “Our certification with the Hortonworks Data Platform is a significant milestone in the Teradata-Hortonworks partnership. We established a partnership with Hortonworks, because Hadoop is a vital component of the Teradata Unified Data Architecture (UDA). Seamless access to massive amounts of multi-structured data stored in Hadoop file systems provides unmatched value to our customers.”
“Talend and Hortonworks share the common goal of bringing enterprise-grade big data technologies to organizations of all sizes, making it easy and safe to adopt the best data management solutions available,” said Fabrice Bonan, Talend’s CTO and co-founder. “Hortonworks’ new Certified Technology Program accelerates the deployment of leading edge products by ensuring their interoperability with Hadoop. Talend Open Studio for big data, embedded in Hortonworks Data Platform, seamlessly integrates Hadoop to the rest of the information system to accelerate the time-to-value of big data.”
“Tableau is pleased to be a Hortonworks Certified Technology partner,” said Dan Jewett, vice president of product management at Tableau Software. “Hortonworks’ unique capability to process complex and large data sets coupled with Tableau's award winning business intelligence software, offers organizations unparalleled insight into their big data, no matter how large and complex. With our certified integration, organizations can deploy Hortonworks Data Platform and Tableau into their operational environment, assured of superior performance and high availability.”
“The Hortonworks Certified Technology Program benefits the industry by advancing a thriving ecosystem for Apache Hadoop,” said Martin Hall, EVP corporate development at Karmasphere. “Karmasphere, the new analytics layer on Hadoop, integrates with Hortonworks Data Platform to enable data analysts everywhere to use their SQL skills to easily and powerfully analyze all their Hadoop data.”
“We are proud to be a Hortonworks Certified Technology partner,” said Tim McIntire, president and co-founder at StackIQ. “Having Enterprise Data cluster management software certified for the Hortonworks Data Platform will let customers choose our management platform with confidence.”
“The certified integration of MarkLogic and Hortonworks offers unique capabilities in the marketplace and provides a viable big data solution for enterprise organizations,” said David Ponzini, SVP of corporate development at MarkLogic. “The integration combines MarkLogic’s leading enterprise-grade NoSQL database with the massive storage and processing capabilities of the Hortonworks Data Platform. The combined solution delivers robust support for mixed big data workloads spanning real time queries to complex batch analytics.”
“We believe that working with Hortonworks and the Hortonworks Data Platform is of great benefit for the Apache Hadoop Community,” said Amyn Rajan, CEO of Simba Technologies. “Having the Simba Hive ODBC Driver Certified for the Hortonworks Data Platform demonstrates the commitment of both Hortonworks and Simba to help provide the highest value to the Apache Hadoop Community. Simba continues to be the leader in ODBC, JDBC and big data connectivity innovation and we look forward to the continued success of the Hadoop platform.”
On January 15, Hortonworks announced its newest version of Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP 1.2) featuring enhanced enterprise-class management with Apache Ambari. By introducing additional new capabilities for improving security and ease of use, HDP is endorsed and adopted by some of the largest vendors in the IT ecosystem.
