New RapidMiner Delivers More Powerful Data Analysis, Access to More Data Sources, and Ability to Commercialize Extensions

BURLINGTON, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/22/13 -- Rapid-I, a leading provider of open source solutions for predictive analytics, data mining and text mining, today announced the availability of RapidMiner v5.3. RapidMiner provides data integration, ETL, data analysis, and reporting in a single application, with an intuitive, drag and drop visual environment for designing and deploying customized analytical processes, and has been downloaded by over three million users worldwide.

In addition to over 100 performance, usability and stability improvements, the new version delivers more powerful data analysis operators and access to popular data sources including Microsoft Excel™ 2007 and SAS™. RapidMiner v5.3 is also fully integrated with the Rapid-I Marketplace, where users can discover and install new RapidMiner extensions published by a growing list of independent developers. Popular extensions include text and web mining, image mining and recommenders.

"With the RapidMiner 5.3 release, Rapid-I is confirming its commitment to building the most open, powerful and easy to use predictive analytics environment in the industry. The many improvements and seamless integration with the Marketplace deliver more power, flexibility and ease of use to our customers, ultimately translating into dramatic productivity gains, especially when compared to more traditional approaches that require programming," said Rapid-I North America CEO Giuseppe Taibi.

"RapidMiner is already known in the industry for being exceptionally easy to use, yet powerful and extensible. This new release strengthens the RapidMiner ecosystem both in terms of better and deeper integration with the RapidAnalytics enterprise-grade server, as well as the developer's community via the extensions Marketplace," said Dr. Ingo Mierswa, chairman of Rapid-I.

The Rapid-I Marketplace provides a unique opportunity for developers to reach the large and growing community of RapidMiner customers. Extensions can be offered free of charge or for a payment determined by the developer. In the latter case, developers retain 70 percent of revenues generated by each download.

RapidMiner v5.3 also features:

  • More than 20 new functions for analysis and data handling, including multiple new aggregation functions;
  • File operators, including Move File, Rename File, Copy File, Create Directory, and Delete Files, directly from RapidMiner; and
  • A macro viewer that shows macros and their values in real time during process execution, for better debugging.

Rapid-I also announced RapidAnalytics server v1.3, with ad hoc reporting allowing non-expert users to easily create web-based data queries and visualizations, a JavaScript API for adding complex actions allowing for improved interactivity, execution queues for more efficient calculations using cluster-based load balancing, and the ability to use file objects in reports and dashboards for user-defined data from Excel and other files. RapidAnalytics server v1.3 will be available next month.
