AlienVault, the only open and collaborative Unified Security Management platform delivering built-in controls and full visibility, announced today that Hugh Njemanze will join as a senior industry advisor. Njemanze will work closely with AlienVault’s senior management team, providing counsel on their Unified Security Management platform and technology, as well as overall go-to-market strategy.
“Hugh created one of the first companies in the SIEM space, and his understanding of the market is second to none,” said AlienVault President and CEO, Barmak Meftah. “Not only will his industry expertise help us expand our Unified Security Management platform, but his support further validates our focus on bringing complete, simple and affordable security visibility to all. We’re confident his counsel will be invaluable as we build upon our leadership for the next stage of growth.”
Njemanze co-founded ArcSight in May 2000 and served as CTO as well as Executive Vice President of research and development. He led product development, information technology deployment, and product research at the firm, and expanded these responsibilities to lead all engineering and R&D efforts for HP’s Enterprise Security Products group, the organization that ArcSight became part of post-acquisition. Njemanze is now an advisor and entrepreneur at investment firm, Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers (KPCB). Prior to joining ArcSight, Njemanze worked as the CTO at Verity, where he led product development, and before that he was at Apple in software engineering, where he was one of the key architects behind the Data Access Language (DAL). Njemanze is a CISSP and holds a B.S. in computer science from Purdue University. He was also honored with the Northern California Ernst & Young LLP Entrepreneur of The Year award in 2010.
“I had the pleasure of working with Hugh while we were both still part of HP, and enthusiastically welcome his input on our product strategy and roadmap,” said AlienVault’s CTO, Roger Thornton. “He shares our passion for a collaborative approach to security and understands that true security visibility and intelligence requires a variety of essential security controls built-in and working together, not just SIEM. The whole engineering and R&D team is excited for the opportunity to work with an industry pioneer to continue to evolve both our commercial USM offering, and OSSIM.”
“What excites me about AlienVault is their focus on achieving security visibility through the pre-integration of all of the necessary security controls—IDS, vulnerability scanning, network flow analysis, behavioral analysis detection, log management, asset inventory, compliance reporting and SIEM,” said Njemanze. “Their vision of combining these controls in a single Unified Security Management platform that’s simple to deploy and use and affordable for any security budget, is unique in the industry. AlienVault is passionate about striving to make security visibility an achievable reality for all organizations, and I look forward to contributing to their continued success.”
AlienVault has won numerous awards this year, including Red Herring’s Top 100 Global and Top 100 North America awards, and TechWorld’s ‘Security Product of the Year’. The company was also named a 2013 Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum, an AlwaysOn OnDemand Top 100 winner, and it was ranked 84 on Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500™.
