- Ozone Widget Framework to be on GitHub now by year’s end - The Ozone Widget Framework is an open source project that allows developers to create lightweight applications that draw from pooled data. This has been bogged down in clearance issues, but has gone through a clearance review and new rules will govern the framework. Via FierceGovernmentIT, more here.
- GAO: $2.3 billion in 8(a) contracts awarded without justification - According to a GAO report, the federal government awarded more than $2.3 billion in sole-source contracts to 8(a) companies in fiscal year 2010 without the proper justifications thanks to a lag in updating the federal acquisition regulation. - Data security remains biggest hurdle to public cloud adoption - as many organizations are looking cloud-ward, data security remains a concern. Many security professionals are concerned about back or side-channel attacks from other users living in the cloud. Via SearchCloudComputing, more here.\
- “Project Blitzkrieg” Cyber-Attack Threatens Largest US Banks – McAfee network security firm has confirmed a massive cyber-attack on 30 of the largest U.S. banks. This has been named as “Project Blitzkrieg” and has been tested on 300 US bank accounts already. Via CBS Local, more here.
- Roy: Big data reveals gaps in standards and federal human capital - Donna Roy, executive director of the information sharing environment office within the Homeland Security Department, The advent of big data has revealed gaps in technology standards and the federal government’s ability to take advantage of it.
