OTTAWA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/04/12 -- Protecode, a leading provider of open source license management solutions, today announced that its cloud-based, open source scanning and license management solution, ProtecodeCloud, is now integrated as a standard partner image in IBM SmartCloud. As an IBM Business Partner Solution, ProtecodeCloud enables organizations to easily incorporate license management into their cloud-based development environments.
Protecode on IBM SmartCloud is a hosted solution that enables Open Source Software (OSS) scanning and license management through any web browser with a secure link. Organizations can scan their code portfolio and automatically create software Bill of Materials. Users can obtain a list of all open source and other third party projects, detect modified or unmodified OSS files in their projects, and interact with a variety of reports. Scanning can be scaled on demand to fit the dynamic requirements of an organization.
"Managing OSS licenses and ensuring compliance has become a necessary component of a quality development process. Organizations involved in cloud-based application development are increasingly deploying open source solutions in order to accelerate development and lower costs, and managing those licenses and ensuring compliance has become a necessary component of a quality development process," said Kamyar Emami, COO, Protecode. "With ProtecodeCloud now part of the standard IBM SmartCloud offering, organizations can combine the power of IBM development tools with Protecode's scanning solution with a simple click."
Protecode on IBM SmartCloud gives organizations a full overview of all third party and open source content in their code base, along with the associated license and copyright information. IBM users are able to initiate a Protecode instance through their existing SmartCloud account, acquire file credits from Protecode, and start scanning their code. Additionally, IBM SmartCloud users can generate reports on license obligations and license incompatibilities in their project, and consume and generate Software Package Data Exchange (SPDX) files for their supply chain management. Organizations can also find security vulnerabilities, encryption package information, and Export Control Classification Numbers related to their corresponding open source packages.
