Zettaset Names Alan Truman as New Vice President of Engineering

Zettaset, a leading innovator of enterprise-grade Hadoop management software, today announced that Alan Truman, former Vice President of Engineering for Cloud Services at Blue Coat Systems, Inc., has joined the company as the new Vice President of Engineering.

With over three decades of enterprise product development and deployment experience, Truman brings proven enterprise software engineering expertise to Zettaset to continue to enable the maturation and adoption of enterprise–class Hadoop. Truman will be responsible for managing Zettaset’s growing engineering team, driving new product innovation and delivering on the market’s primary requirement for a hardened, Enterprise-ready Hadoop solution.

“Our customers are amassing huge volumes of unstructured data and have a critical business need to process it. The only way to fill this market need is to deliver compliant, enterprise-grade Hadoop in a secure, reliable and easy to deploy enterprise software product, without having to rely on costly professional services,” said Jim Vogt, President and CEO of Zettaset. “We are building an executive team which has deep experience in delivering new technology in a product form that enterprises expect and require to adopt and release it into live production environments. Alan’s proven track record in building enterprise software and hardware products that stand up to the rigors of enterprise-grade requirements fits perfectly with Zettaset’s objectives for driving broad spread market adoption of Hadoop. Under Alan’s leadership, Zettaset will continue its mission to break down the barriers for enterprises to harness the power of Big Data.”

“Making Hadoop mainstream and continuing to smooth out its open source rough edges is Zettaset’s mission; I am here to galvanize that ongoing campaign. I find it refreshing that in this open source market Zettaset has taken the approach of listening to the customer’s needs. We are offering an enterprise software solution that is cost effective, reliable and high performance. Also, by enabling Hadoop transparently with our product, customers are not locked into single vendor or professional service offerings. I support this enabling strategy and look forward to being part of a team that puts the customer’s needs first,” said Truman.

Most recently, Truman was the Vice President of Engineering in the Cloud Services Business Unit at Blue Coat Systems, Inc. At Blue Coat, he built and launched a new Cloud Security product that was widely adopted by enterprise customers worldwide. Prior to Bluecoat, Truman built his enterprise focus, developing infrastructure and security based solutions at SynOptics (where he was a founding engineer), Bay Networks and Ingrian Networks. Alan holds a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech.

Today's workforce is trading their cubicles and corporate desktops in favor of an any-location, any-device work style. And as digital natives make up more and more of the modern workforce, the appetite for user-friendly, cloud-based services grows. The center of work is shifting to the user and to the cloud. But managing a proliferation of SaaS, web, and mobile apps running on any number of clouds and devices is unwieldy and increases security risks. Steve Wilson, Citrix Vice President of Cloud,...
When Enterprises started adopting Hadoop-based Big Data environments over the last ten years, they were mainly on-premise deployments. Organizations would spin up and manage large Hadoop clusters, where they would funnel exabytes or petabytes of unstructured data. However, over the last few years the economics of maintaining this enormous infrastructure compared with the elastic scalability of viable cloud options has changed this equation. The growth of cloud storage, cloud-managed big data e...
