The Different Types of Backup and Recovery Options Available

For your business success...

When it comes to running a business, something that you will need to look into is the backup and recovery of your information. This is also something that personal computer users may want to look into. The problem is that disasters can happen all the time, whether that is the hardware breaking or a flood or fire damaging everything. Having a backup will make is possible to get the lost information back, quickly and easily.

There are a number of ways to back up your information and it is worth looking into each one of them. This will help you find the best backup and recovery option for your needs and for the needs of your business - or personal life.

Backing Up Everything Yourself
One option that you do have is to back up your information yourself. This is something that many personal computer users and students are advised to do since computers can break at any time with very little warning or viruses can eat away at software and operating systems. Businesses are also able to back everything up personally and there are a few options to do this.

The first way is through using external hard drives and flash drives and another option is to print everything out and store it in another room. The benefit of doing everything yourself is that you will be able to gain access to it when you want and there is less risk of the information getting out to others, which is very important with sensitive information.

However, a big downside to this is that you will need to find somewhere to store the information. This will often be somewhere else in your home or office, which still runs the risk of losing everything. If there is a fire, flood or other damage to the building, you may also lose the documents that you backed up.

Get Another Company to Do It
There are a number of companies that offer a backup and recovery service for a reasonable fee, which may be something worth thinking about. These companies will take care of everything for you and store the information away from your location. Storing the information off-site means that there is less risk of losing everything in the event of a disaster.

However, you do run the risk of sensitive information getting out. While many companies do have a data protection policy, there may be rogue employees who will go through the information. Businesses have a lot of sensitive information, such as confidential medical records and social security numbers.

The information is often store off your site, which offers some benefits but there is the downside of getting the information back to you. This will take time, which will mean that you still have to wait to get back to business.

Storing on the Cloud
Having a backup and recovery system off-site is important but runs into problems of time delays. Storing on the cloud gives you the benefit of storing off-site and no time delay. Cloud storage is done in the virtual world, so you will be able to gain access to the information again, quickly and easily, as long as you have an internet connection.

Cloud backup and recovery is still relatively new and there are some problems, such as security worries and problems of the business having to close down due to financial difficulties; but this is something that you would risk with any third party for your data recovery system.

The benefit of cloud storage is that there are paid and free services. The free services offer a small amount of space, which is perfect for personal computer users, while the paid services offer more space for businesses and those who need to store a large amount of information.
