Plenty to "Woot" About at Edmonton's Capital EX

It's all part of the summer fun known as Edmonton's Capital EX

EDMONTON, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 07/12/11 -- The Wikipedia definition of "woot" is "a statement of victory" or "applauding good news". July 22 - 31, Edmonton is going to be packed with people saying, "Woot!" They'll also likely be screaming at the top of their lungs or strutting with stuffies (as in large stuffed animals - the kind you find around midway rides and amusement park games). It's all part of the summer fun known as Edmonton's Capital EX. "This is summer fun at its best," says Richard L. Andersen, president and CEO of Northlands, producers of this incredible summer celebration.

Capital EX is located in northeast Edmonton, on the sprawling Northlands grounds, where there's room enough for a horse-racing track, a massive midway, and Canada's largest trade and consumer facilities outside of Toronto. This year, though, Capital EX fun is bound to happen practically anywhere in the city... or at least anywhere you happen to see the Capital EX Woot Camp. Wherever they go, be it a sporting or community event or a shopping mall, the Woot Camp Crew will be getting people to participate in some hilarious stuff... activities like the Stuffy Strut, the Big Dizzy and, yes, the Top of Your Lungs scream.

For the record, you can participate at home too. Videotape yourself performing these crazy activities, upload the video to the Capital EX Facebook page, and you could be entered in the Woot Camp Facebook Contest to win the ultimate Capital EX Experience.

There's plenty to "woot" about at Capital EX. Hands down, this is Edmonton's biggest summer celebration. Last year, over 700,000 people came through the admission gates. This year, Capital EX participants will experience more fun than ever before: pop, rock and country music on the TELUS Stage; the Martin Deerline Capital EX Chuckwagon Derby at Northlands Park; Outlaws of Motorsports in the EX Zone; the Get Animated exhibit (and other cultural exhibits) in the EXPO Centre; the Canadian Idol-style Northern Star Talent Search; and great family entertainment on the grounds (like Family Fun Town, where kids can have tons of fun building things in the "construction zone").

Just some of the exciting new attractions at this year's Capital EX include: the Spirit of Michael Laser Spectacular in Hall D and the fantastic new midway ride, Spin Out! It spins, it twists and it turns. It's definitely something to experience.

For music lovers, there's plenty to love about Capital EX. Free with gate admission, you can see great performances on the TELUS Stage by acts such as: Natasha Bedingfield, Terri Clark, and Ace of Base, just to name a few.

For parents with small children, Family Fun Town offers plenty of hands-on activities, but for some really BIG entertainment the little ones will remember for years to come, take them to Rexall Place, just a short jaunt over a walkway from the exhibition grounds, for Sesame Street Live: Elmo's Healthy Heroes, July 22 - 24.

For those seeking a more cultured form of amusement, there's Sip! Wine & Food Expo, a 10 day food and beverage sampling event, and the Northwest Originals and performances. The feature exhibit in Northwest Originals this year is something brave and wild called Container Art. This multi-artist display features a spectacularly unusual sight: art displayed in a large railway container.

Topping off each day of fun at Capital EX is a spectacular fireworks display, nightly at 11 p.m. You'll want to stick around for this. Grab some mini-donuts from the exhibition grounds, hold on to that stuffy you just won, and behold the magic.

Oh, and when the fireworks pop, crackle and boom, you know what to say: "Woot!"

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...

Furthermore, ways in which companies can best protect their AI related inventions will be examined from both a US and...
